Is Antivirus Enough For Security?

Absolutely no, but why? Malware are too many variety of malicious software such as virus, rootkit, spyware, ransomware, malicious worm, adware, Trojan,.. and many more. But the Antivirus software/program have database of identifiers for malware, so it can detect malware and quarantine them or even delete them. But how security companies get the malware identifiers?

The malware (i.e virus) spread all over the internet, and security people in the Antivirus companies identify it and create a method to detect this virus. So the virus detected when the security companies detect it! It is a step-delay! the virus-makers have a step-forward! it's a police and thief story.

So Antiviruses can not identify all malware especially new ones! So we can not rely on those software to protect us from malicious code! But what can we do?

We should secure ourselves first! Yes, ourselves! because hackers can hack us by too many ways, here are the common methods.

  • Email attachment: when you download the attachment file and open it, the malware is running
  • Evil file pretends it is a useful one: this malicious file called Trojan Horse as it is a malware but pretends to be a useful program/file.
  • URL Redirect: a malicious URL/website address that redirect you to a malicious website that has a malware to install or a malicious JavaScript code.
  • Phishing web pages: it is a web page looks like a popular website login page such as GMail, Yahoo Mail, Facebook,.. etc. That page is not the original one, but identical similar to it. But when you sign in/login by you EMail and password, then send automatically to the hacker who created this fake web page.
  • Pirated software: the cracked programs which include a malware in it to steal you information, or spy on your device,.. and so on.
And too many more methods to hack you! The key difference here is YOU! You are the real Anti-malware for you life (real life & digital life). The most phishing page are detected by secure browsers such as Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox but some of phishing pages can not be detect by a software yet! So you can detect them by yourself. You look at the URL of the web page, and identify if it is the real URL or a fake similar one, for example; (original) but (fake).

So you should protect yourself by your own behavior (and software too). Here are the tips to protect your digital life.
  • Install a good Antivirus/Anti-malware program
  • Do not click on malicious links
